Marble Quarries Apuan Alps

If you are in Viareggio or Versilia, a must see experience is to stop and visit the Carrara marble quarries. Guided tours are available inside some of the quarries, but you can also visit them independently from the outside. The village of Colonnata is not to be missed with its characteristic houses with marble on every building and and for a tasting of the lard they are famous for processing and curing.
